Polish champion Łukasz Habaj is on the cusp of a top-six place on the FIA European Rally Championship’s Rally Rzeszow having already gained three spots on the first two stages of leg two.

Having lost 2m40s on Friday’s first stage when he slid into a ditch, Habaj started Saturday holding 10th place but gained a couple of places with the second-best time on SS8, passing Raul Jeets and the troubled Filip Nivette.

He then climbed above Jarosław Kołtun on SS9 Wysoka when the C-Rally Ford Fiesta R5 had an off-piste moment, losing half a minute. Habaj is now seventh, and only 6.8s behind Wojciech Chuchała, the ERC2 leader.

Kajetan Kajetanowicz won the stage, although he was only 0.7s faster than Bryan Bouffier on this occasion. His lead is now 52s
